Cancun

After our wildlife visit in Orange Walk we took a taxi to the bus station and the bus drove to Chetumal in Mexico (where our travels began) and from there we took another bus to Cancun in Mexico. We went past the place we had stayed in Akumal where our stay began.

Once we reached a bus station in Cancun we took a taxi onto the man-made peninsula full of resorts. When we reached the middle of the peninsula we arrived at our all inclusive resort. This wasn’t mine or my mums idea it was the ultimate travellers idea. He has been on about it since the beginning of our travels so in the end mum had to give in.

We walked into the reception room which was massive and modern.  We got our wrist bands and then a man asked us to sit down and started to talk about things that we weren’t interested in especially after 10 hours of travelling. I think he was trying to get money out of us. After he had finished he said meet me tomorrow and ” don’t let me down”. It must have lasted 15 minutes but it felt at lot longer than that. I was so glad to get away from him at the end.

A man pushed our luggage to our apartment.

(I lost the pictures for this blog as-well but mum took some pictures)

Our apartment had a bathroom and 2 double beds. It had a balcony overlooking the next resort to us but we could just see a glimpse of the sea.

We stayed here for 5 days.

Of course I didn’t just wait around or have a rest I put my swimming costume on and took the lift down to the reception room and went outside and down a spiral staircase and then I was in the pool area. There was 2 pools(a bottom one

and a top one),

a jacuzzi (only for adults but I went in anyway) and an adult pool.

There is a cocktail bar in one of the pools and you can swim up to it and sit in a chair(which is in the water) and order a drink(it’s an all inclusive so you can order anything you want whenever you want).

One day I was going into one on the pools and I noticed a girl, about my age. She thought I was going into the top pool but then she realized that I was going into the other pool so she got out and followed me(she was on the other side of the pool) and we started talking so ever since then we were friends. Her name is Ashley and she is 11 like me (I was eleven then but I am 12 now) and she is american.

Every night in the dining room there is a show. Sometimes in the dining room there is a buffet which is delicious.

But when there isn’t a show on you eat in the breakfast area which has great desserts.

One night there was a magic show(which was brilliant and almost unbelievable), a Mexican dance show which was very good

and another night there was a show but that was for the audience to join in and do stuff(it was only for adults). My friends mum went up on stage. It was quite funny. They also asked for each country they named to shout and see who was the loudest,of course the Americans won.

There is also a gym that is on the ground floor. I went on a treadmill and all the other stuff-.

It was really fun.
The breakfast was one of the best things. The breakfast area was a sort of buffet. You just grabbed a plate and put whatever you wanted on. These are the sort of things that I got; fruit, potatoes, lots of different sort of bread, smoothies, cheese…

The beach is nice here but it’s very wavy so I have only been in once or twice. This is what our resort looks from the beach.-

One day we buried Jed up to his chest and put bright blue sunglasses on him and he looked so cool-.

The peninsula is very long and narrow, but you can still see the end of it from where we where.

Ever since I arrived I wanted to try parasailing which is possible to do all the way down the peninsula. So on the last day I went down to the beach and asked how much it is and all the rest of it. The price and everything else was ok so my mum said yes. My friend wanted to do it too but we needed an adult to go with us. So in the end her mum came with us.

All three of us got on a jet-ski and a man drove us to a small boat which was about 700 meters out at sea. I was at the back of the jet-ski. I thought I was going to fall backwards. I have never been on one before. They are SO FAST!!! It was super fun! You could even feel the tiniest wave that we went into.

We reached the boat and climbed up a ladder and sat on some seats waiting for the other people who were in the air strapped up into the parasail. When they came down we all had to sit on a harness and they strapped us in. Once we were secure we rose into the air. We went so high we could see Cancun itself, each side of the peninsula and the tiny island of Mujeres, so far away. It was magical. I enjoyed each moment I spent up there.
After a few minutes I asked Ashley (who was in the middle and I was on one side of her and her mum was on the other side) “what’s that down there” but she didn’t know either. After a few more minutes we decided that it was a turtle on the surface of the water. It didn’t seem to be moving but I think it was definitely a turtle. We took in each detail of the view. After 20 minutes or so we came back down.

As soon as we got down we jumped onto the jet-ski. It drove even faster on the was back. Before we reached the beach the man didn’t stop, he just kept on going up the beach! It was really lumpy and not very comfortable but we didn’t have time to think about those things, before we knew what was happening we had stopped.
After that small adventure I had to say bye to Ashley

and then all my family and me piled into a taxi and drove to the airport. We went to the check-in desk and queued up. There was a lady with a bucket and a sign saying departure tax £50 per person!!! This would have been £200 for our family but my mum had researched online that if we paid this at the bank in Mexico we wouldn’t have to pay it here and we paid it months ago to leave Mexico by land and had all the paperwork to prove it.

So my mum said she wasn’t paying it and the lady was all flustered and had to get her supervisor who also said we had to pay it and then she brought her manager and she said we had to pay some of it as some of it was air tax. My mum argued for about an hour and the queue behind all paid and Jed was crying but she kept arguing and eventually we paid £60. When we arrived at check in the man said oh you didn’t book with us you don’t need to pay anything!!! So they gave us our money back. So thank goodness for mum lol.
