Further North still, we reached the Arctic Circle Centre and the many rock formations left by people from all over the world.

After reading several recommendations on Saltraumen (being one of the strongest tidal currents in the world) for one of the best places to fish, we decided to head here next for TUT and my brother to enjoy. If you’ve read -like we did- that there’s a perfect free -or any- spot to camp at by the water’s edge, it is no longer possible as they have blocked access there for campers but we managed to park up the road by the main one whilst we spent a day here (we ended up leaving to stay somewhere else for the night).

It seemed we hit the right time of the day. At first, nothing happened and the sea was tame. Soon after, waves began to form and schools of fish (Pollock) jumped and danced through the currents which were all over the bay and we were each catching one every couple of minutes; even my 5 year old brother! If you enjoy fishing, want your child to be able to catch one or simply want to witness this magical hour I highly recommend for you to visit.

A Norwegian couple came to join us, the man fishing and the woman chopping each fish on the basin provided like a pro told us this was their dinner 3 times a week and if I ate fish I would do the same, why buy processed food when you can catch fresh food for free? Jed even managed to accidentally catch a seagull with the amount of commotion and excitement in the bay.

As we didn’t want to stay by the road in Saltraumen we drove a short distance to outside the small city of Bodø to a free parking place overlooking the city and by many trails and lakes. Even though we only stayed here one night we still managed to get ourselves lost and explore the mountain tops overlooking the Norwegian Sea.
